Memorial Day is almost here. Lots of people in town, and lots of places more than willing to help you have a good time. Remember the reason for the nice 3 day weekend – remembrance of the members of the US armed forces who gave their lives in service to the country. Take a moment out this weekend and give them a thought.

All down the beach there will be music playing. A festival all about cooking on the grill? That sounds awesome!  Even a fishing tournament. Now we just need a sitting on the beach, doing nothing festival. I will attend for sure! Here are some of the highlights if you are looking to go out and kick up you heals.

Every year, the Las Conchas Community Relations Comity holds the Art in the Park Event at Fiesta Park. Local artisans sell their crafts. It’s a nice opportunity to stock up on some cool Christmas gifts, and support Rocky Point small businesses.

Oh, It’s Helpful Hamburgers!

It is common for towns in Mexco to have a Casa de Cultura. Here is where art events, painting classes, and traditional dance have their home. Rocky Point has one, right across from City Hall.
Our ‘Casa’ has a new addition to the facility. The modern, glass fronted two story building will make for a better experience for those taking classes, etc. This is where a lot of cool events take shape, like last October’s first ever Dia de Los Muertos festival.
Hamburgers are on the menu this Sunday, June 12th, starting at 11am. Head on down and enjoy a great tasting lunch, while helping the Arts to flourish. Fifty pesos gets you a mouth watering burger, and at the same time helps the ‘Casa’ get needed things like air conditioners, etc.
Hamburger fund raiser

You’ve heard of herding cats? How about rubber duckies? In the ocean no less!

It’s time for the Great Rubber Ducky Race. On Sunday, June 12th, hundreds of little floating ducks, usually at home in the confines of your bathtub, will get dumped into the cruel sea. But don’t feel too bad, it’s for a good cause.
One of the more ingenious charity fund raisers in a town with more than its fair share of such events, the the Rubber Ducky Race will generate funds to support Adopt a Classroom of Puerto Peñasco. But how exactly to duckies race?
Shipped out a few meters off of Rocky Point’s Sandy Beach, bins full of the plastic birds (NOT an endangered species!) are cast into the waves. There, the tide takes over, moving the largely disinterested ducks towards a random date with destiny. In other words, some lucky duck is gonna’ be the first one to hit the beach, and become this year’s winner.
What’s at stake? Plop down 5 bucks for a duck, or 10 smackers for 3 quackers, and along with helping a worthy charity, you are entered to win prizes. If your numbered duck is drawn, you could win a stay at on of the Sonoran Resorts, or a round of golf, massages, and more.
So get your ducks in a row and support this fun charity event. Contact the event organizers to purchase ducks at RPbarbO@gmail.com, or call 602 324 9529, or in Mexico 638 383 4963.

This annual week-long celebration honors the men and women who make their living on the sea. Fishing is the reason Rocky Point even exists, and every family with a history in this town has had part of their story include the Sea of Cortez.
Festivities this time include a singing contest, a fair, as well as the traditional rides offered on the Mexican Marine’s boats. The Marines are the equivalent of our Navy. The highlight of the weeks events is when a a wreath is lowered into the ocean from one of the vessels. This is done in memory of the many who have been lost in what remains a dangerous line of work.
